BNSF 8736 and 8727 depart the Port of Oakland yard limits with the Warm Springs Local in tow. This train runs between Richmond and Fremont, most of its route actually being over UP trackage rights.
AMTRAK 89 leads the northbound AMTRAK CASCADES as it approaches the Bellingham,WA Transportation Center. The CHERRY POINT LOCAL with BNSF 2100 on the point is on the the Bellingham Siding waiting for the North Branch Dispatcher to say go.
Four geeps on the South City Switcher squeal their way through the tight curve between Arthur St. and Quint St. This and several other curves along the route restrict this job to 4-axle units.
These two GP's are the local power in Bend. One is GP40M number 3009, and the other is GP39-2 2723. The road crews use the road power to set out or pick up cars in Cascan. Then, the local crew goes to work making up a Northbound local every day. The local goes from Bend to Madras, OR, and...
...the Gensets run tonight.
I went on a safari for UP's Fullerton Local and caught the train as it headed back from switching. The train runs for a couple of miles through the Fullerton Hills, and over the years, the vegetation has grown quite dense, giving the line the look and feel as...
The thrice-weekly Santa Cruz Local rolls across an idyllic country lane on the way up to Davenport. This is on the portion of the line between Watsonville and Aptos.
BNSF 2907 on the point of the NEW WEST LOCAL, after leaving its train on the main, made a reverse move of power only into the INTALCO YARD on the Cherry Point Sub to pull out a string of cars, put them on their train, and back the entire train into the INTALCO Yard for the Cherry Point local to...
The South City Switcher disrupts traffic at the intersection of 3rd and Carroll as they deliver a cut of reefers to a local produce warehouse. It was a nice surprise to see the old Grande unit in the lead this day.
BNSF's South Local (LKAN341101I) zips through Ogg on the Plainview Sub with BNSF 515, 2 SD40-2's and 2 cars. They will drop these cars at Tulia and return light power to Amarillo.
The South City Switcher pulls a cut of empty reefers out of an industry in the Oyster Point Industrial Park in South SF while a Genentech shuttle bus looks on. What the photo doesn't show is that as the train blew for the crossing, the bus driver reciprocated with honks from his own horn. The...
A common sight on CP (Ive seen 5 together) much rarer on CN. The lash-up will likely be cut in half @ shops to form two roadswitcher pairs. 4794 was in North Battleford working solo two weeks ago, no doubt brought in so the crews dont need to use the GMD1u yard power.
Note that 4794 is in...
A "local" which runs from the UP in Dalhart down BNSF's Dalhart Sub to pick up/set out cars in the old RI yard here in Amarillo and return to Dalhart. I like UP's choice of power for this train. the old Rock Island Bridge is now used as a storage track for UP.
