    Defective Equipment

A CSX boxcar seems to missing some wheels on the bottom. A temporary fix is seen here.
  3. Distributed Breaking Car

    Distributed Breaking Car

Before DPU came through, CN intorduced this fun boxcar. CP uses ex-BN 40's for the same purpose in Northern Ontario with SOO #'s. Generally these are put on the trail-end of a long train, at least 9000ft me thinks. 2:05pm CN 311, 149 cars CN 5788-5425 2 autoracks, 58 boxcars (45 cut), 2...
  4. Ancient CPR 40'

    Ancient CPR 40'

One can only guess how old this boxcar really is. The original paint dates prior to script, so 1940's? Hard to believe it's still roadworthy in 2008, even if it is used as a rolling shed. How odd he looks next to a modern IMS double-stack. No such thing when he originally rolled the country...
  5. CP 40' box in 2008

    CP 40' box in 2008

Although they won't admit it, CP loves their old 40's, as they're all over MOW service refusing to die! Surely a number of 'newer' 50's are making it onto the MOW circut, but the 40's fleet remains strong. I really like this one since it looks stock, particularly if you don't notice the newly...
  6. GN boxcar!

    GN boxcar!

Last time I was @ IPSCO (major scrapper) I spotted an old NP mail coach, so I knew there was treasre to be found. On my last trip to Regina I made sure I didn't miss any of it, by driving around every block of the compound. I got lots of strange looks from buldozer operators, but look what I...
  7. Steamed up Boxcar

    Steamed up Boxcar

Viewed from the cab of the MSN #103 a boxcar appears to be steaming quite heavily. Made for a interesting shot.
  8. Holiday Lumber train

    Holiday Lumber train

Back in Nova Scotia, I used to see long cuts of 60' paper boxcars all the time on CBNS. They're virtually absent on CP through town (maybe 10 per year!), except for the Holiday train, where this cut of four can be seen.
  9. Holiday crowd

    Holiday crowd

The stage car can speak for itself, but note the car next to it! I believe its the only 50' boxcar to have CP's rodent decal attached. They are very common on 60' high-cubes. Note the covered Christmas tress on the roof.
  10. Rainbow in the dark

    Rainbow in the dark

CP 9815 shines on. You can clearly see the Holiday decor attached via sheeting, for easy removal and storage. Every boxcar was covered with it!
  11. Old CN '40 box

    Old CN '40 box

There I was, taking pictures of CTRW GP10's, when I happen to look the other way and see this ancient piece. Its in what appears to be a private construction lot (no rail acess), with a very old and beat-up scrapper up front. It's too bad CN #'s are patched out, otherwise we could trace its...
  12. CTRW Oops...

    CTRW Oops...

Driving through rural SK, looking for CTRW in semi-abandoned hamlets, I finally found some RR equipment in the middle of now-where, next to a deserted HWY. Judging by the bulldozer tracks, CTRW decided to clean this one up. His trucks are just outside of the frame.
  13. Land of bunk cars

    Land of bunk cars

These days CP's Transcona yard is mostly used to store bunk cars. It's too bad that the relatively new bunks on flats are blocking the older converted 40' and 50' bunk boxcars. You can see them in the background, here's a close look: http://tinyurl.com/2yqstk. Right in front of me were these...
  14. Vanilla ice...

    Vanilla ice...

The picture speaks for itself. Sadly for me it's a magazine reject.
  15. CP boxcar oddity

    CP boxcar oddity

On my last full day in Winnipeg I made it my priority to visit the only place that I haven't been before - CP Transcona yards. The yard is primary used to store unused CP MOW equipment. Where else would you see a line of 20 bunk cars on flats, 5 multimark cabooses in a row, or a line of...
  16. CP script boxcar

    CP script boxcar

A typical 50' boxcar is being switched at an industry. Although this is a museum piece, there are still a couple script boxcars working in revenue service: http://www.railroadforums.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/35973/si/cp%20boxcar%20winnipeg

    Old wooden truck

An old boxcar from the 1890's at the "junkyard" in Bozeman suprisingly had trucks that were almost completly made out of wood.
  20. Brand New Boxcar!

    Brand New Boxcar!

On a Puget Sound & Pacific Railroad brand new BNSF Powerbar boxcar heads to Centralia, WA to unload and restart it's trip again.
