The ol' 5009... She was one of the "final 5" on the D&H, (5002,5009,5017,5022,5023) that lasted up to 1994 or so... I ran her quite a bit in the 90's... Burned out 3rd transition limited her to yard duty as she'd only do about 20-25 mph by herself... When in MU, she'd be fine...
Out of the D&H EMD's, the 7400's were the best of them... They road alot better than the 7300's and 7600's, and although same model as the 7600's, seemed to be built better... The real gem in the photo is the 404... Wonder where she is today? A&M maybe?
Yes, those were very uncertain times... NYS&W was operating on temporary 90 day basis, requiring constant court renewals... We never knew what tomorrow would bring... Amazing that in 3 months time, NYSW operated the D&H with a small profit... Mohwak yard was used primarily for car...
3 EMD's heading south... Man, I sure hope they had pushers!!! The 7300's and 7400's and 7600's were lousy on "pull power" on the hills... GE's and Alco's were much better suited for D&H terrain...
Rumor has it that Colonie ran out of blue paint... hence the gray ghost... Also, this unit was painted during the era D&H was painting various all blue schemes, maybe why there wasn't enough blue... Never knew how true the rumor is/was, but that's the story...
Oh, 1990... Prolly long gone now... Dang... 539 parts are hard to come by...
Yes, I'm working on my S-2... She's getting closer to cranking over on her own...
Man, just look at that power!!! Railfanning today SUCKS compared to what was around in the 70's and 80's!!!
There's an Alco kinda' hidden to the right... Looks like a C-420 in LV paint... Any idea what that is?
