    Locomotive Cabs

For me, the drone of the older noisier cabs actually makes me more sleepy.. kind of like white noise. A lot of the time if it's real bad, and we're ok on HPT we will isolate the leader.

    Locomotive Cabs

Personally I hate when they put junk older power on the head end... and they do it a lot. I love the newer cabs that are quieter and rattle less :D

    Retention Boards

Lot of retention boards on BNSF. Any others out there have them? I am starting to get worried. Don't want to look for another job at 50 years old. :(

    Crossing arm/light activation

I was told that the "shunt" in the rail is what causes the gates/lights to activate and speed is determined by how fast the axles are passing over the shunt in the rail. Not sure how true that is. I'll have to ask our signal maintainer if I ever see

    Getting hired by NS

Money is good with BNSF. Different areas make different amounts of money. I made almost 90K last year, but I never laid off and worked my arse off :D I doubt there is a big difference in pay between railroads since union contracts kinda dictate the pay.

    BNSF storm damage

Wow that was pretty bad. I work on the Casper Subdivision, and we had a flood just south of Laurel at Silesia MT. I was on the last train through before it flooded out. Ended up being stuck in Laurel for almost 40 hours, since they would not deadhead us home  That's ok though...

    Locomotive Cabs

I agree 100% especially with computer access to pertinent info. Air ride seats...nice :D Also get rid of all vinyl seats and go with cloth to help eliminate swamp a$$ in the summer:p I'm not an engineer.....yet, so the controls don't mean much to me, but I do like the flat dash and...

Guess I need to get the camera out...

No pics yet, what with the no electronics allowed on duty rules :( Where is Colstrip exactly? Out of Greybull we run North to Laurel, and South to Casper, plus we have our Cody local the runs from Cody over to Frannie.

What to ware for this UP Interview

I was/am a craft transfer, and I still wore dress pants and a tie for the conductor interview. When in doubt overdress. They won't overlook you because of it. BTW I did get the position. In week 7 right now of 15 weeks of training in Greybull WY :D And as someone else said, check your...

    Time to say hi

Essentially that's what he is. He is the GF over the repair and SFS facility. I was told by others that he would do that. Let's just say he likes to mess with people to show his power. I have a letter in to HR dept, where he stated to me in an email, that he would "do whatever is needed to...

Rant on: Looks like I am out for the Conductor positions. My General Foreman won't release me :mad::mad::mad::mad: What a !@#$ bass turd. Especially after he told me he would do whatever he needed to do to help me. Now I am out $700 for a plane ticket, hotel and car rental. Sorry...

    Time to say hi

I emailed the HR person handling everything and asked her to make Greybull my first pick, if I can have an option. I'm sure they will put me where they need me, if I get the job, but it doesn't hurt to ask. :D I did find a trip rate chart on our website, that shows the trip rates for single... is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to - An online railroad bookstore featuring a curated selection of new and used railroad books.
