VIA Rail apologizes to passengers as train delay reaches 45 hours

Company won’t compensate passengers, saying delays are ‘beyond our control’


VIA Rail is apologizing to its passengers, who are currently on a cross-country trip 45 hours behind schedule, saying the delays are "beyond our control."

"We understand the impact this major delay has on our customers and we apologize for the inconvenience they cause," said spokesperson Mylène Bélanger, in an emailed statement.

Who can complain about getting a "bonus" of one or two extra days on the train? It's not like sitting on a tarmac in a crowded plane for 8-12 hours, as has happened in the past.

Well, they started out by being stuck in Toronto for 26 hours. Now, that might be OK, -if- you knew how long the delay would be from the start (apparently they didn't), and -if- you weren't trying to actually get someplace or make a connection to a flight or cruise or whatever.
