Up close & personal...

Feb 2003 - The driver of this westbound Virgin Trains HST set is concentrating hard as it hits the 70mph speed limit for the curve at Dawlish Warren, UK. (In case anyone was wondering i'm the right side of the boundary, it kicks out right in front of me.) I believe parts of the footbridge date from the 1840's!
Are the HSTs still used around Dawlish? I read somewhere that most of the loco pulled trains were being replaced with train sets like the voyagers.

Good shot Martyn. The attractive footbridge nicely frames the HST.

Dogface, Great Western uses these almost exclusively down this end of their territory, and Virgin still has a few sets running round, but the real loco-hauled sets have dissapeared appart from the overnight "sleeper" train to London. :-(

Great photo Martyn.. i've not been on here for a while and now i realise what i've been missing. Myself and Matthew (stickymonk) have some great shots of class 91's and eurostar half sets that we took about 10 miles north of Peterborough, I'll try to post them soon. The good thing with a GNER HST is that you don't get to see how dirty they get due to the dark blue livery..!
