Slowing for the Bear

The eb Anita Turn slows down to cross the flood damaged Bear River bridge (out of pic to left). The flood of 2-14-86 weakened the bridge supports and trains were restricted to 20 until repairs were made. This local still used a 4-man crew. One person can be seen in the last trailing geep to look back on the train. At this time, SP managed to operate many caboose-free locals, but most road freights still carried the caboose. UP practice on the former WP was the exact opposite. UP locals were still using cabs, but FRED was a qaulified member for road freights. Jerry C. photo
