Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific # 760 Fairbanks Morse H10-44 frist locomotive built by them in 1944 ,two stroke opposed diesel engine.This is preserved in operating condition at IRM in Union Ill. not far from where it was built just over the border in Beloit Wis.
Very interesting picture. They apparently weren't as concerned about safety back in the '40's as later. No railing along the side of the walkway on the side of the engine. It looks like maybe there's a rail to grab onto at the bottom of the black area on the side of the engine.
