Illinois Central Gulf GP-10 #8011, near 22nd St., Chicago, Illinois, June 1978, photo by Chuck Zeiler. There's a mystery piece of track work, it once connected to Dearborn Street Station in Chicago. Per comment below by beal99, and I have no reason doubt the facts as presented:

"The picture looks compass south (timetable east) along the ex-PRR toward Fort Wayne. The mystery piece of track was part of the Chicago & Western Indiana main line from Dearborn Station, and was used by the trains of the Grand Trunk, Wabash, Chicago & Eastern Illinois, Monon, and Erie Lackawanna. The Nickel Plate used LaSalle Street Station and did not use this track."

Here's a link to the opposite view a year or so later, after it was removed. Either way, that's a heck of a lot of rail joiners in a small space.

And here's a link to another photo. The now removed track is seen in the upper right of the photo at this link.

Thanks for the corrections, I wasn't sure where the Nickel Plate terminated.
