How far away were you from the engine - What zoom setting was your lens at - I've noticed when I am really zoomed in on a train from quite a distance away the tracks look like this and appear to be very sharp turns.
 
Shot with a 400mm lens, so there is a bit of telephoto compression. Between the curves is probably 1/8 of a mile. Each RoadRailer trailer is 53' long.
