L.N.E.R. (B.R)., 'Thompson Pacific'.

L.N.E.R. (B.R)., 'Thompson Pacific'.

Taken whilst a young school-boy in the 1950's! Location near Grantham on the East Coast Main Line. One of the rather 'much-maligned' & somewhat 'ungainly' Edward Thompson designed Pacifics. Cylinders 'set back' after the front bogie - unlike the more 'balanced-looking' Gresley Pacifics. This loco was one of those named after famous 'pre-grouping' Railways such as "North Eastern".

Thanks for the rating!
Please see my corrections to the description of this photo!

Correction:
This loco is Class 'A2/3'.
(Not named after old railway companies!) Some of these locos were Thompson re-builds of Gresley Class 'P2' 2-8-2's.
