From the sunny side, I bet you would've lost the drama and the feel.
 
Thanks for the comments, Jeff. I agree that the shot would have been very different from the sunny side. The background would instead be the highway and the hills are farther away to the east. We are looking west in this photo.
 
Sure, here I am all ready to say it would look better from the sunny side and Jeff's comments make me go back and think again! It's great!!
