a similar black and white image is featured in the TRAINS magazine that I found in my mailbox this evening. I find your lighting and exposure the better of the two... just my oppinion.

I'd like to say that I took a chisel with me that day and worked on the rust to get a more "expressive" pattern. I'd like to, but I can't 'cause I didn't. Sometimes you can't beat the 2nd law of thermodynamics for effects.
As for the lighting, sometimes you can't do better than good old sunlight. All in all, this was one of those shots that pretty much jumped into my camera by itself. I love it when that happens.
