SD35 #702
MRL SD35 #702 at Laurel Yard. MRL uses its SD35's in Laurel for yard switching, usualy w/ an RC caboose coupled to them so they can be operated by RC controlers (i'm not quite sure what the advantage of RC switching is over switching w/ someone in the cab; safty, maybe?)
Yes, but instead of a 3 man crew it's a two man crew. Two switchmen on the ground and no one in the cab of the engine. And for being safer, it all depends on the crew, whether it's 3 or 2.

3 man crew? MRL's crews consist of 2 people: 2 engineers (or switchmen if they're in the yard). Also, don't they only have one guy controling an RC loco?

They may, since I don't know their working contract. I know some short lines in California have one man crews with RCL. They have two man crews when they don't use RCL's and usually both are qualified engineers with one doing the conductors job. The main reason RCL's are used is to reduce the number of bodies needing insurance and reduce liability costs.
