Had a few hours between business appointments and watched the trains in Merced, CA on Monday.
Excellent image... I like those 500 series units.

Is 511 in regular service on the San Joaquins ??
 
GREAT PHOTO! Looks a real beauty!...All that massive power! Did not know that Amtrak had this type of loco....I learn something interesting from my friends on this brilliant site every time!
 
Question on if this engine is used regularly. I'll defer to others. I'm from Kentucky and was in Merced on business for a day and felt fortunate I even got to see some Amtrak action.

Few and far between in my neck of the woods.

To answer your question Jeff 511 works either in the Chicago or LA Pool. I've seen 511 more then once on 3/4.
