5/15/20 - As we get things ready to reopen, we’ve had a lot of work getting the train switched into a serviceable configuration for social distancing, and moving cars in and out of the shop. Yesterday, the train got a much-needed bath. And today, for the third time in a week, we had the train out and moving. Today, it was a run up to Parkdale to turn two cars and a locomotive, along with some crew training and re familiarization after the heavy winter work the fleet has gotten. That gave us an opportunity to work out the locomotives as well - most everything was placed in storage when the quarantine started. It also gave us the chance to take Grande Vista, the dome car we bought from Oregon last year, out past Cañon City for the first time. Naturally, everything and everyone performed flawlessly, and made it back safe and sound. We’ve done a ton of work over the off season making an already safe train safer, stronger, and ready for many years of service to come. I am proud to work with a team of real professionals, and their effort shows.
We had planned on reopening the railroad a week from Saturday (5/23), but that is presently in doubt. We’ll know more after the weekend, I am sure. But in the mean time, the train is in its initial configuration for service, save for one car that is finishing up its turn in the shop now. It felt good to get the girls out and stretch their legs a little.
